What do I wear?
Wear something comfortable that you can move in. Also bring an extra cardigan, and/or some socks, as you can cool down during a session.
Do I join a group or is it a private session?
Feldenkrais can be taught both ways. Group classes, sometimes called Awareness Through Movement (ATM) class, are a verbally instructed class and I teach a group class on a Monday (see below). Terms are 8 weeks and each term explores a different theme.
Private sessions, sometimes called Functional Integration (FI) lessons, are taught 1-on-1 and are guided mainly through touch. I offer these sessions at my home in West Perth Monday - Wednesday (see about page).
Will it hurt?
The Feldenkrais experience is one that follows the motto "LESS pain, MORE gain". Most of the time, it is a wonderfully relaxing and engaging experience. Occasionally if you have an existing issue you can feel tender after a session but this will pass within 24 - 48 hours once your body adjusts to the new information.
How often do I need to come?
In the beginning every week or fortnight is best. You are learning new movement patterns that are best attended to regularly. Once you have completed 6 - 12 session you can come every 3/4 weeks for maintenance. Group classes can be attended weekly for many years/decades.
How many sessions will I need to do?
Everyone is different however most people do between 8 and 20 sessions. Some continue to come indefinitely for the love of it.
